Sutton is a great place to live, but we believe that it could be doing so much better. It is crucial that the Council is not allowed to grow increasingly distant from the residents it serves. A raft of centralised targets set in Whitehall and pressures added from City Hall pushes power further away from the local people that use and pay for the services offered here in Sutton. We aim to change this. The Policy group initiative described here is a once in a generation opportunity to conduct a thorough investigation of the relationship between Sutton Council, other service providers and residents. We do not come into this process with any preconceived ideas. Yes, as Conservatives, we have our guiding principles. However, we want to spend more time doing that rare thing for a politician; listen. This is the only way to achieve the balance between a range of priorities whilst ensuring no-one is left behind. One of the few rules that we are not prepared to be diverted from is that we must always achieve the very best value for money, making the most of every penny of tax and income spent in the Borough. I hope that you will get involved in whatever form you can. Visit our website, email, phone or write to us with your views and comments. This is a conversation for all to have. As local residents, we will all benefit from the results. So, join us, in changing the future of Sutton. Click on the two video links to the right, you can listen to Cllr Paul Scully's introduction, listen to views from the public and hear Boris Johnson MP endorse our initiative. |
